Game Review: Paige Harper and the Tome of Mystery

By Free Ride Gamer Team on May 25th, 2011

Paige Harper’s worst nightmare is about come true in the Hidden Object game Paige Harper and the Tome of Mystery! One night, while searching the Library for a rare book, Paige suddenly finds herself in a secret room with a handsome spirit trapped inside. Many years ago he stumbled across a mysterious book, which trapped him inside the Tome and now he needs Paige’s help to solve the book’s mystery in order to free all the trapped souls. Worried she will be stuck there forever, Paige doesn’t waste any time and immediately embarks on a quest to solve the mystery, only to realize that before she can do that, she must first help various characters in famous literary works – like Hamlet, Sherlock Holmes and Romeo & Juliet – solve their own problems!

Paige Harper and the Tome of Mystery offers a great twist on the standard gameplay in this genre. Whether you are in Capulet’s Garden or Treasure Island, the scenes are presented in a unique pop-up book format and within them you need to look for various objects, like Romeo’s love letters to Juliet or a misplaced football in Robin Hood’s camp.

Game Review: Victorian Mysteries – Woman in White

By Free Ride Gamer Team on May 19th, 2011

If you’re looking for juicy mystery combined with amazing visuals and a good storyline, the Hidden Object game Victorian Mysteries: Woman in White should do the trick! Based on the 1858 serial “The Woman in White”, one of the earliest mystery novels ever to be published, the game sticks close enough to the facts for those who have read and enjoyed the novel.

Victorian Mysteries: Woman in White begins as our hero’s train breaks down and he has to walk the rest of the way to Cumberland on a dark chilly night. Leaving difficult times behind in London, Walter Hartright is busy contemplating his new position as an Art Teacher at Limmeridge House when he suddenly runs into a mysterious woman dressed in white who seems to be hiding from something… or someone?

While initially he thinks nothing of it, the plot thickens when he arrives at Limmeridge House only to realize that one of his students – Laura Fairlie – bears an astonishing resemblance to the woman in white who, rumor has it, escaped from an asylum.

Game Review: Little Shop – Memories

By Free Ride Gamer Team on April 4th, 2011

In Little Shop – Memories, you are moving from Main Street in Huntingdon to a new store in a sandy paradise. Although it may seem that all you need to start playing this classic hidden object game is your bathing suit and sunscreen, there is a small thing you must take care of before you can hit the road… cleaning out the attic! Probably not most people’s idea of fun, except for the fact that suddenly you find the birthday card Uncle Roy gave you and you start remembering how the $5 in the card helped you start your own Lemonade stand that summer. This of course takes you down memory lane and so the game begins…

The attic is full of bits and pieces, like a safe, a broken television and a bookcase, and each one of these 16 objects trigger a series of four memories plus a mini-game. Each memory is in a different location, like the family BBQ or summer camp and even the bike shop. And after each scene you receive a keepsake like an old photograph for your scrapbook, which tell a cute story or reminds you about a blast from the past.

By Free Ride Gamer Team on September 10th, 2010

Based on the Irish/Canadian television series, The Tudors is a hidden object game that fans of the genre would definitely want to check out.

The Tudors Box Shot

Only two weeks after the execution of his former wife, its King’s Henry VIII’s wedding night. The festivities are over, and Elena Sedgrave and her father William are just about to call it a day when a strange noise is heard within the castle.

Apparently, one of the mansion dwellers has been poisoned, and after the protagonist Elena concocts an antidote and saves the day, King Henry decides to task her with escorting her father on a diplomatic mission to France, and act as his personal spy. Without much of a choice, Elena starts a journey full of deception and betrayal, towards Europe.

As is many most typical hidden object games, your main objective in The Tudors is to find the various objects scattered across the different screens. But The Tudors insist on more then just your average pixel hunting hidden object game. With minor elements of an adventure game, and different puzzles to solve such as jigsaw puzzles, finding differences between two pictures, lock picking puzzles etc, The Tudors gets a boost to its game play depth while staying loyal to the genre at all times.
